  • The precast stone bench manufacturing is in progress and a mock-up section of the bench has been installed and reviewed by the team
  • Speaker installation is scheduled to start the first week of January
  • The detention tank installation is complete

  • Roofing is in progress starting around the oculus and advancing towards the outside perimeter
  • Substantial Completion is now scheduled for Jan. 26, 2012 and use of the space beginning in late Feb. or early March
  • The precast stone bench manufacturing is in progress with a mock-up section of the bench scheduled to arrive on site around mid-December 2011
  • The detention area excavation has started and the assembly of the tanks is in progress
  • All power tie-ins to the Music School have been completed successfully

  • The project is on schedule for Substantial Completion on Nov. 21 and use of the space on Dec. 5, 2011
  • Structural steel is completely installed except for the knife edge 
  • Scaffolding for the installation of the ceiling has been installed 
  • All trench utility connection work to Alice Pratt Brown is complete, as well as all piping within Alice Pratt Brown Hall
  • All utility work is now confined mostly within the Turrell construction site

  • The underground drainage elements are scheduled for completion by Aug. 5
  • Electrical utility rough-ins for the new light poles are complete
  • Foundations for the garden elements (light poles, sculpture, etc) are scheduled for excavation by Aug. 5

  • Structural steel began to arrive on site on July 1
  • The contractor is working on the electrical duct bank from the music school mechanical room to the sidewalk at the north west corner of the project site
  • No disruptions to the music school’s program have been reported due to construction

  • Substantial Completion is scheduled for Nov. 21 and use of the space on will begin Dec. 5, 2011
  • Overall structural and MEP coordination is 100 percent complete
  • Waterproofing below existing grade is scheduled to begin June 7
  • All footings and lower viewing area walls have been poured

  • The groundbreaking ceremony took place Tuesday, May 17
  • Tree protection is being regularly reviewed by the FEP Arborist
  • All civil sanitaryand storm sewer work outside the building footprint has been completed except for the detention tank, which will be installed at a later date
  • Under slab MEP coordination is 100% complete
  • Mass excavation for the foundation is completed and poured footing seal slabs are 100% complete
  • All footings have been poured and inner forms for the concrete walls of the lower viewing area are being currently installed, with concrete wall pouring scheduled for the end of next week, May 26, 27

  • The air handling unit, a long lead item, has been ordered
  • Construction work will stop at noon on Friday, May 13 as well, due to the Commencement activities
  • Tree protection is being regularly reviewed by the FE&P arborist
  • All Civil sanitary and storm sewer work outside the building footprint has been completed except for the detention tank, which will be installed at a later date
  • Under slab MEP coordination is about 90% complete 
  • Mass excavation for the foundation is completed and poured footing seal slabs (stabilization slabs required where existing piping was removed) is 70% done

  • Two-way traffic is set-up on College Way, during construction hours only
  • Structural steel, a long lead item, has been ordered
  • Important Music School events have been incorporated in the construction schedule and the construction team has already successfully dealt with one event in the Organ Room
  • The construction trailer is on site and has been furnished entirely with existing Rice furniture from the CIC trailer
  • Tree protection is in place
  • Sanitary sewer work outside the building footprint has been completed and under slab MEP coordination is in progress
  • Storm rerouting outside the building footprint has begun

  • The electrical switchgear for the building is powered up
  • On July 2, chilled water will begin circulating to the building from the Rice Central Plant. The main electrical room will begin to be conditioned that day
  • The building is expected to be completely dried-in on July 9 including the completion of exterior water/vapor barriers
  • The building air will be turned on on July 9 as well

  • Interior electrical rough-in work has begun
  •  Windows are scheduled for delivery the week of May 3
  • The salvaged wood flooring (from Autry Court practice gym) has been transferred to the Wilson House flooring subcontractor
  • The design team is investigating an alternative sanitary sewer tie-in point

  • Mechanical piping, ductwork and plumbing piping are currently being installed on the lower floors of the building

  • Masonry continues at both Will Rice and Baker colleges - Scaffolding is coming down on the north elevation of both wings
  • The drywall is being taped and finishing has begun at Baker
  • The tile roofing for Baker is over 75% complete - the tile was salvaged from the demolition of New Will Rice
  • The roofing for Will Rice will begin the week of March 29th
  • At the East Servery, 80% of the foundation piers have been completed and formwork has begun for the grade beam wall

  • Wall and second floor framing work is in progress
  • New steel framing members are erected and second floor trusses are being installed
  • Temporary power has been installed to the site.

  • Brick is continuing on the north and west elevations of Baker while the interior drywall is being hung
  • Fan coil units at Baker are being tested at this time
  • Brick has begun on the north and west elevations at Will Rice also
  • The interior build out continues with the wrapping of duct and interior electrical
  • For the East Servery, the old Will Rice kitchen has been demolished, and the demolition inside the old Lovett kitchen and basement underneath is 90% complete

2/4/2010
The Wilson House
  • The building permit has been granted by the City of Houston
  • Tree protection has been installed and is nearly completed.  Chain link fencing is up and fabric screening is in progress.  Soil erosion control fencing and storm inlet protection is in progress.
  • Next week we will begin pavement sawcutting and jackhammering in order to demolish the sidewalk adjacent to the Wiess Grove and the four accessible parking spaces on the east side of the site
  • Fill dirt will be delivered and placed next week

  • Revised Plans were submitted to the City of Houston for permit on Monday Feb 1
  • Final decisions on exterior design issues are pending

  • A Mock-up of a ’55 wing suite has been completed for review by Housing & Dining

Tudor Fieldhouse and Youngkin Center
  • Brick installation is complete at Autry Court and for the north addition
  • Brick installation on the north face of the two story building is 95% complete
  • Exterior and interior soffit-plaster ceilings activities are ongoing throughout the project and are 50% complete
  • The window wall framing for the main entrance to the arena is currently underway
  • The terrazzo flooring installation is complete in the lobby area directly outside of the main arena
  • Ceramic tile installation has begun in the corridors of Autry Court and new restrooms
  • Elevator installation is 90% complete
  • The current Recreation Center offices, weight room and dance studio have been relocated and existing spaces are 95% demolished
  • Underground utilities in Autry Court are 98% complete and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades are roughing-in lines in walls and ceilings throughout the building
  • The new scoreboard for the arena has been installed will be operational in two weeks
  • Concrete curb work has begun along College Way in front of Autry Court

South Colleges Renovation
  • The project is currently in the design development phase
  • Construction Documents will be completed in early spring of 2009
  • Construction will commence in May of 2009 and be substantially complete in July of 2010

Rice Children's Campus
  • Rice Children’s Campus officially welcomed children to the first day of class on September 29
  • The building was constructed using green building practices to meet LEED standards and will be among only a handful of LEED-certified schools in Texas
  • The green features include: An 8,000-gallon, underwater rain-harvesting tank that collects water that will be used to irrigate the native trees and plants designed by landscape architect Harry Dill, a roofline designed with a unique angle to flood the classrooms with natural light, odor-free and zero volatile organic compound paints and other materials, and a self-monitoring mechanical system to maximize energy efficiency
  • The building used reclaimed materials from the old houses  that were carefully deconstructed to make way for the facility - 10,000 of those bricks were incorporated into the façade of the children's campus

South Plant
  • Start-up and commissioning activities are ongoing
  • The glazing of the tower glass began on September 27th and is scheduled to compete late November
  • Installation of the air inlet hood for the tunnel just north of the South servery is scheduled for last week in October
  • Final cleaning of the tunnel system for turnover to Rice is underway and should complete the second week of October
  • A temporary metal fence has been installed atop the berm-wall
  • Painting of exposed exterior piping is underway
  • Pedagogical display monitors and security cameras have been installed
  • The project team is working with the Recreation Center to re-install the Frisbee-golf course in the detention area - This should occur in mid to late October
  • The green construction fence on the Intramural Field 7 field will be replaced with a permanent outfield fence the first week of November
  • The South Plant has been supporting the EEB with assistance in planting of native flowers in detention - This planting is expected to occur in late October
  • The gate arms on Alumni Drive will be repaired within the next several weeks
  • Installation of IT and telecommunication conduits and fiber through the tunnel system has commenced
  • Completion of tie-ins to Collaborative Research Center are still on-hold pending the electrical street crossing resolution
  • Current estimated date for complete site demobilization is December 5, 2008

McMurtry College
  • Block work is ongoing at Duncan and McMurtry Colleges on level three and will progress to level four in the next few weeks
  • Concrete is being poured at Duncan College at level four
  • Bathroom pods continue to be delivered to the site and are being installed in the student rooms
  • Mechanical, engineering and plumbing rough-in continues throughout both McMurtry and Duncan Colleges
  • The foundation at McMurtry College is being set

  • Duncan College fourth-floor section one and two are scheduled to be poured on Wednesday and Saturday of this week

  • The building roof completed August 10th
  • Building wrap is completed and the hardi-plank installation is 75% complete on the north side
  • The 4th floor has been inspected by the city and drywall is starting on the ceiling
  • Brick has been delivered
  • Rough-in cabling is complete on the 4th and 3rd floors for I.T. and fire alarm
  • Drywall is staged in every suite and protected with plastic sheeting

  • The CRC shell and core is approximately 65% complete. 
  • The target Substantial Completion Date remains March of 2009. 
  • The curtainwall and brickwork has commenced. 
  • The steam and chilled water piping under University are intalled.
  • The electrical service under University is currently being installed.

  • Ceramic tile installation has started in the corridors of Autry Court and new restrooms.
  • Drywall installation is 90% complete throughout the building
  • Underground utilities in Autry Court are 98% and the elevator installation is on going
  • Reroofing of Autry Court is ongoing and 80% and will complete within the next few weeks – weather depending
  • The steel erection and the roof for the temporary building is complete
  • Drawings for the Ley Plaza have been submitted for city approval

Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen
  • Metal panels and glass for the shadow box window at the machine shop are being installed
  • Office doors are being installed and painting is almost complete
  • Data and power floor boxes are being installed in the assembly space
  • The pervious concrete sidewalk will installed this week
  • Furniture and remaining equipment will begin to be delivered and installed on September 2nd
  • The basement wall repairs in the back hallway will begin the first week of September
  • All final details in the mechanical and electrical rooms will be complete within the next few weeks
  • Permanent handrails and interior lighting will be installed the week of September 2nd
  • The green-roof will be installed in October

  • The CRC superstructure topped out in March of 2008
  • The work associated with the exterior wall enclosure, curtainwall, windows and brick, has commenced

  • The core and shell is scheduled to be substantially-complete in March of 2009
  • The tenant work is scheduled to begin this August, 2008

South Plant
  • Alumni Drive is re-opened to traffic.
  • All remaining construction trailers have been relocated inside the South Plant utility yard and landscaping of the surrounding area has begun
  • The first boiler has been fired-up and the geothermal air conditioning system is operational
  • The emergency generators were started and tested successfully and were quieter than anticipated
  • The first chiller was started and produced chilled water – the second chiller is due to be started the week of August 4th
  • A steam blow is anticpated for the week of August 25th

  • Come by and take a walk in this lovely area

  • Installation of the exposed ductwork and the painting of the interior has begun

  • The HC ramp is being constructed and installed at the west entrance
  • Installation of exterior pervious concrete sidewalks will begin within the coming weeks
  • Installation of new furniture and moves from Ryon Lab will begin on September 2nd as well as the installation of exterior landscaping

  • The electrical underground is ongoing and the first floor concrete slab is complete
  • The foundation beams have been poured at the wet-classroom area
  • In the multi-purpose room and cardio area the sanitary and electrical underground lines are ongoing

  • The interior demolition of Autry Court is 90% complete and underground utilities are 98% complete
  • Painting of the Autry Court Bowl ceiling is taking place this week while the Recreation Center is closed
  • Installation of the new south bleachers is complete
  • Re-roofing of Autry Court is ongoing and 60% complete
  • Foundation piers and grade beams are complete for the temporary building behind Autry Court and the concrete slab will be poured this week
  • Landscape retaining walls and the concrete slab for the plaza in front of Autry Court are complete
  • The Recreation Center will be closed August 1 – August 17 for routine maintenance
  • Exterior window frames and glazing will begin in two weeks and ceramic tile installation will begin soon

  • Interior walls are being painted and carpet is being installed in the meetings rooms and computation space

  • The exterior paving and pervious concrete is being poured over the next several weeks
