10/28/2009
Brockman Hall - Phase I
  • The basement construction is progressing with the exterior walls being sprayed with concrete and followed with a pour concrete wall
  • Recent rainfall has slowed construction of the basement slab, however 30% of the basement structural floor slab has been poured
  • Installation of the new water line along Campanile Road to support this project is nearly complete, with road repairs to be scheduled soon

  • The permit request has been turned in to the City of Houston
  • Alumni Affairs offices will move beginning Novevmber 4th
  • The Center for Student Professional Development move date is still pending

South Colleges Renovations and Additions
  • The third floor of the new Baker College wing has been poured and formwork has started on the fourth floor slab
  • The second floor slab for the new Will Rice College wing will be poured October 28th
  • Basement structural supports will be completed this week for the Baker kitchen/servery
  • Roof repairs and temporary waterproofing will be completed this week at the Baker and Lovett ’55 wings

South Colleges Renovations and Additions
  • The second floor of the new Baker wing has been poured as is visible from College Way
  • Steel for the next set of columns for Baker has already been set
  • The first-floor slab for the new Will Rice wing has been poured to bring that portion of the project out of the ground
  • The chilled water system for the Lovett ’55 wing has been energized
  • Restroom pods will continue to arrive with the second delivery scheduled for Friday, October 2nd

Huff House Renovations
  • The architect is working on finalizing the exterior design of the southern and eastern sides of building
  • Interior plans will be submitted to the City of Houston for permit soon
  • Construction is anticipated to begin the third week of October
  • Project plans went for permit last week
  • Elevation details are being finalized
  • The office of Alumni Affairs will be relocated the Greenbriar building during construction
  • The temporary re-location of the other building occupant is under way

  • The building officially opened to the public on September 25
  • The competition pool is still on schedule for substantial completion mid-October

  • The concrete basement walls are being formed and poured at Will Rice College
  • The electrical line to the Will Rice Commons will be reconnected on July 25th

  • Utilities to the South Colleges project have been isolated to minimize future outages to the surrounding area
  • A new gas line has been run to bypass the project to the north of Baker College

  • The second tower crane was removed in mid February
  • The substantial compeletion date for the core and shell work is May 5, 2009 - the date was extended from the end of March by six weeks due to damage sustained from Hurricane Ike
  • The materials hoist will be disassembled at the end of March so that the remaining curtainwall can be completed by May 5, 2009
  • The large tree in the courtyard was planted at the end of February
  • Sitework has commenced and will be complete by May 5, 2009, with the exception of a small portion in the vicinity of the materials hoist
  • The masonry work and the windows are almost complete
  • The main lobby finish work is in progress
  • The service elevator is operational
  • Finishes in the toilet rooms on every floor are nearly complete

  • Site preparation has begun with the erection of fencing along the site perimeter
  • Construction activities are scheduled to commence the week of Feb. 23.
  • A large magnolia tree was relocated to the South Plant site
  • The first phase of the project has is under review for permitting by the City of Houston

  • The tower crane is scheduled to be disassembled and removed the weekend of February 13th and the installation of the green roof is will commence at that time
  • The core and shell of the BRC are now scheduled for substantial completion in April 2009
  • Landscape and surrounding hardscape work is expected to be complete by mid May
  • Faculty move in is scheduled to begin in early July and complete by mid August

  • Brick work and window frame installation at the pool courtyard has begun
  • The locker-room area will be “dried-in” within the next few weeks
  • Electrical overhead and fire sprinkler rough-in  for the second floor of the locker-room wing will take place over the next several weeks
  • Mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-in continues on the second floor
  • Interior gyp wall framing and plaster ceiling framing is ongoing in the locker room wing
  • Electrical panel rooms and the build out of the mechanical room is underway at the administration and racquet ball court area
  • Detailing and roof decking is taking place at the atrium between the administration building and the racquet ball court space
  • Detail and metal roof decking is ongoing at the MAC Gym and cardio space
  • Roofing insulation and ice and water shield will begin in the next few weeks
  • Steel stairs are begin erected at the multi-purpose and cardio area
  • CMU walls at 2nd floor are being installed over the next several weeks
  • Fireproofing of the mezzanine will be complete within three weeks
  • 211 days remaining until the grand opening

  • Work on the fifth floor has commenced; steel beams and CMU walls are being installed
  • Windows are being installed on site at both colleges
  • Second floor work at the Kitchen/Servery is well underway and the libraries and private dining rooms for both colleges are taking shape

Anderson Biology Roof Replacement
  • Contactors have removed more than half of the roof and work is proceeding towards the west-end of the building near the Greenhouse
  • The demolition of the old roof should be complete within the next several days, barring extreme weather conditions
  • The second-layer roof and new flashing cap around the perimeter of the building will commence as soon once demolition is complete
  • Work is expected to complete in January

BioScience Research Collaborative Core and Shell
  • The work associated with the exterior wall enclosure, curtain-wall, windows and brick is nearly complete
  • Mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection rough-in is close to completion
  • The core and shell are scheduled to be substantially complete in March of 2009
  • Work for tenant improvements began in October of 2008

  • Brick installation is complete at Autry Court and for the north addition
  • Brick installation on the north face of the two story building is 95% complete
  • Exterior and interior soffit-plaster ceilings activities are ongoing throughout the project and are 50% complete
  • The window wall framing for the main entrance to the arena is currently underway
  • The terrazzo flooring installation is complete in the lobby area directly outside of the main arena
  • Ceramic tile installation has begun in the corridors of Autry Court and new restrooms
  • Elevator installation is 90% complete
  • The current Recreation Center offices, weight room and dance studio have been relocated and existing spaces are 95% demolished
  • Underground utilities in Autry Court are 98% complete and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades are roughing-in lines in walls and ceilings throughout the building
  • The new scoreboard for the arena has been installed will be operational in two weeks
  • Concrete curb work has begun along College Way in front of Autry Court

  • The project is currently in the design development phase
  • Construction Documents will be completed in early spring of 2009

Rice Children's Campus
  • Rice Children’s Campus officially welcomed children to the first day of class on September 29
  • The building was constructed using green building practices to meet LEED standards and will be among only a handful of LEED-certified schools in Texas
  • The green features include: An 8,000-gallon, underwater rain-harvesting tank that collects water that will be used to irrigate the native trees and plants designed by landscape architect Harry Dill, a roofline designed with a unique angle to flood the classrooms with natural light, odor-free and zero volatile organic compound paints and other materials, and a self-monitoring mechanical system to maximize energy efficiency
  • The building used reclaimed materials from the old houses  that were carefully deconstructed to make way for the facility - 10,000 of those bricks were incorporated into the façade of the children's campus

South Plant
  • Start-up and commissioning activities are ongoing
  • The glazing of the tower glass began on September 27th and is scheduled to compete late November
  • Installation of the air inlet hood for the tunnel just north of the South servery is scheduled for last week in October
  • Final cleaning of the tunnel system for turnover to Rice is underway and should complete the second week of October
  • A temporary metal fence has been installed atop the berm-wall
  • Painting of exposed exterior piping is underway
  • Pedagogical display monitors and security cameras have been installed
  • The project team is working with the Recreation Center to re-install the Frisbee-golf course in the detention area - This should occur in mid to late October
  • The green construction fence on the Intramural Field 7 field will be replaced with a permanent outfield fence the first week of November
  • The South Plant has been supporting the EEB with assistance in planting of native flowers in detention - This planting is expected to occur in late October
  • The gate arms on Alumni Drive will be repaired within the next several weeks
  • Installation of IT and telecommunication conduits and fiber through the tunnel system has commenced
  • Completion of tie-ins to Collaborative Research Center are still on-hold pending the electrical street crossing resolution
  • Current estimated date for complete site demobilization is December 5, 2008

  • The emergency generators were started and tested successfully and were quieter than anticipated
  • The first chiller was started and produced chilled water – the second chiller is due to be started the week of August 4th
  • A steam blow is anticpated for the week of August 25th
