McMurtry College was built concurrently with Duncan College as a critical part of Rice’s Vision for the Second Century, expanding the undergraduate population by 30%. The college was designed for energy efficiency, will meet LEED standards and will include a “Green Roof”. McMurtry College is designed to hold 324 students, a college commons, master house and kitchen/servery. The college is named for its generous donators, Burton and Deedee McMurtry, '56, '56.
