McMurtry College was built concurrently with Duncan College as a critical part of Rice’s Vision for the Second Century, expanding the undergraduate population by 30%. The college was designed for energy efficiency and meets LEED standards. This building includes a vegetative roof and many other innovative building systems. McMurtry College is designed to hold 324 students, a college commons, master house and kitchen/servery. The college is named for its generous donators, Burton and Deedee McMurtry, '56, '56. This project has been LEED Gold certified.
